One of the best pieces of advice I can give anyone before they start attending college would be to do some research and choose schooling opportunities that open up multiple doors regarding career choices in the future. It is said that, on average, people will change careers six times in their lifetime, and so making sure that your degree opens up many options will stop you from having to go back to college if or when you decide to switch careers.

Also, if you want to switch careers, and you have already gone to college, check out my article on reducing your course load. Another option is post degree training. It is usually more fast-tracked than entering regular course streams.

Smart students will think about many factors when choosing a college path to limit the amount of time and money that will need to be spent switching careers.
