MoreOne of the first things you will notice when taking an online course is how much more difficult it is over a traditional classroom environment.
Without face to face access to the teachers and peers, it can become very difficult to determine certain key elements, but I have also found online education to lack distractions, and the issue with the pace that information is distributed that many classroom environments have.
To limit your frustrations, you will want to have high quality, dependable computer equipment, as well as a strong work ethic. Also, depending on the course, you will want to immerse yourself in as many different types of information dissemination as possible. If your professor puts out audio of his sessions, make sure to take a listen to it. If he or she puts out video, textual notes, or interactive clips, make sure you use as many of them as possible. People learn best in certain environments and from certain mediums. I do best with video or hands on training, which sometimes made my online learning that much more difficult, but you can also create your own study videos if you have the ability, time and patience.
When taking a programming course, I would constantly come up with ideas on things I wanted to create with the programming language I was trying to learn. I would then start working on it and research as I came across barriers, or holes in my knowledge.
This was a very effective way for me to learn the language, and I passed the class with the highest mark.
The next tip I would give anyone taking any online course is to try to connect with your peers in person. If even one other person taking your class lives near you, it would be in your best interest to try to meet up with them in person so you could study, exchange notes, and pass ideas and thoughts back and forth. This type of interaction can be key for certain people to pass their online course and it can help both parties involved.
There are so many things you can do to make your online education easier, better, and more fulfilling, but if you don’t try various methods listed above, you might end up not making it as far as you had hoped.
