MoreWhen it comes to writing an essay, I don’t think there’s any student who actually truly enjoys the process of writing it but many prospective college students and entrance organizers have found that a remarkable essay can be the key to being accepted.
What you need to keep in mind is that the best essay in the world won’t get a prospective student accepted into a college if they’re not qualified. However, if a prospective student is a qualified applicant, a really good essay can help them stand out from the crowd of other prospective students all vying for a seat in the same popular college or course.
This article will help you understand how you can craft an essay that may be able to help set you apart from everyone else.
When it comes to being a senior in high school, there is a lot of stress as you are trying to finish out your last year of high school on a strong note, and begin to focus in on what is next. There is a certain time of the year that high school students have a chance to get away from all of the homework and testing that puts the most stress on their shoulders: summer vacation. That’s about a ten week getaway from all of the stress and worries that high school has to offer for its students. In the summer before your senior year there is a great opportunity available to start taking the needed steps to make sure that you’re prepared for the college submission deadline. Make sure that you try out different methods and approaches as well as ask for feedback from your family members as well as your friends.
Why should I spend my time away from school writing an essay?
The answer to this question is quite simple: when it comes to the essay which you will be submitting to the college for the admission process, it’s your time to shine! This will show any staff members at the prospective college what you are capable of and show your ability to be a self-starter. Take the time needed to make it just right so that your essay is complete by the time it comes to submit it. When you have the time to get something done, you’re going to do a better job than if you wait until the last minute to get it taken care of.
There’s no magic recipe when it comes to writing the perfect essay; however, here are some pointers to help you get on the right path to a successful college admissions essay:
Make sure that the essay you’re creating has the right structure. When it comes to the structure of an essay you are writing, make sure you format it under the guidelines of the educational institution you are applying to.
Don’t forget to include yourself. This essay is what’s going to tell the admissions counselor about you. You could write about “Government Policy in Military Conflicts”, but it’s not going to tell anyone a great deal about who you are. No matter what the topic is that you’re writing about, you need to make yourself known throughout the essay so that the admissions counselor is attracted to who you are and what you will bring to the school as a student, not just how you are able to relay information to readers.
Avoid repeating information that you put on the application. Simply put, if an admissions counselor read your application, he/she would know a lot about your accomplishments, and educational background, but the application only says so much. Inform the admissions counselor other things about you which weren’t even covered in your application for admission. This will provide an opportunity for the admissions counselor to get to know more about you as a person.
Think about keeping your essay topic simple. The best essays seem to be the most simple essays to read, ingest, and understand. Rather than choosing a complex topic, think about choosing a simple one that shares a lot about the type of person that you are. You don’t want to create an essay that has the potential side-effect of making the reader feel excluded.
Don’t forget about the supplement questions! These are one of the most critical parts of your essay. Do yourself a favor and think about your supplement questions while you’re writing your essay. What are you trying to say? What do you want to accomplish? What are the long term applications of what you are learning? It is cliche to say, but try to think outside the box a little and push that into your essay.
Don’t be scared to share your opinions, but make sure that you diversify. When it comes to your essay, it will be read by a variety of different people that have different backgrounds. You need to make sure that you don’t offend anyone, so be careful when you’re providing your opinion within your essay. On the flip side, if you don’t defend your stance and opinion, even if your opinion is the same as the commonly held one, then your essay will come off sounding weak.
Don’t try to use instructional books as your only source. Text books can give you facts, and information, but they very rarely ever give emotion, passion, and creativity. Stick to facts and numbers, and you might create something so boring and stale that reading it will be equivalent to a visit to the dentist. Add your own creativity, and emotion to your writing. Also, NEVER copy anything from one of these books, plagiarism is an instant “no-entry”.
Make sure you do your due diligence when writing, and you can come up with something that will attract the school to the type of person you are, and hopefully get you past any waiting lists that the school may have.

The point of your college application is to humanize you in the eyes of the admissions officers. It allows you to become something more than just a piece of paper, which happens to be the same piece of paper they have looked at a thousand times. My college essay was a little bit daring. The first line was “School has never been easy for me”. The rest of the essay concentrated on my specific struggles throughout high school. My grades were not stellar, but they were acceptable. Because I kept in such close contact with admissions, as well as humanized my self in my application, I was accepted to my first choice college (which happens to be a damn good school! lol)
