Photographer Career
Photographers have the responsibility of using their cameras, either digital or film, to take what expert call as still photos of places, people, events, etc. for a wide variety of uses, dependent on the clients’ requirements. A photographer may have one or more specialization like high street photography which involves wedding photos and portraits, editorial photography for magazines and ads, fashion photography for model shoots and catalogues, and a lot more.
A photographer may usually perform these tasks:
- Selecting the locations where photo shoots will be held
- Meeting with clients to discuss specific projects
- Choosing the right camera and accessories as well as setting up the equipment for the shoot
- Taking shots
- Retouching and printing the pictures
Most photographers have assistants to ensure that photo shoots are completed properly. Assistants will also be responsible for administrative tasks such as keeping records, storing finished products, etc.
Photographer Salary Information
A photographer earns an average salary of $25,000 per year. Photographers who work for periodicals or newspapers may expect an annual salary of $32,000. Those employed in scientific and other professional fields may expect lower rates. Photographers belonging to the upper 10% of the salary bracket may earn up to $50,000 annually.
Photographer Qualifications
To become a professional photographer, the people you know and the experience you have play the most important roles as compared to education. However, most photographers take up photography courses in order to facilitate the development of their technical skills. In press photography, however, a degree in photojournalism is usually required.
