Screenwriter
A screenwriter has the responsibility of coming up with new ideas and make the stories ‘come true’ in TV shows, feature films, and even computer games. As a screenwriter, your work will usually consist of:
- Create characters and story lines that are ‘believable’
- Making summaries of ideas and selling them to producers
- Script rewriting on an as needed basis
- Aside from pitching ideas to producers, a screenwriter may also be commissioned to develop a screenplay usually based on a true story, an adaptation of an existing book, etc.
Screenwriter Salary Information
Screenwriters are believed to be capable of earning huge amounts of salary. This may actually be true as one script may even amount to millions of dollars. However, this happens only to popular and experienced screenwriters. Of course, screenwriters are not paid regular salaries, so earning a million dollars for year A may not mean that you’ll earn the same for Year B.
Screenwriter Qualifications
Being a screenwriter takes a lot of skill in these areas: writing, imagination, and creativity. The usual courses that people may look for in a screenwriter may include courses in creative writing, journalism, sometimes, acting. Take note, however, that journalism and acting may not really be requirements for the position.
Screenwriters do not really have a set path in training. A screenwriter’s skills will expand as more experience is gained. If you are an experienced screenwriter, you may opt for a Master’s Degree in Screenwriting to further widen your knowledge about techniques, styles, etc that may be really helpful in your career.
