Multimedia Programmer

A multimedia programmer writes, designs, and programs all portions of multimedia products. He or she creates all text, audio, graphics, photographs, video, animation, and virtual aspects for DVDs, CD-ROMs, websites, and computer programs. Multimedia programmers create scripts and codes that ensure programs run exactly the way the are supposed to run, as well as creating tests, patches, debugging programs, and alternate codes when problems arise. Other typical duties include: producing program storyboards, digitizing files, arranging video and audio recordings, incorporating multiple software applications into one system, and overseeing design staff.

Multimedia programmers are typically required to hold a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, graphic design, or other related field. It is preferred that programmers have a strong background in: programming languages such as Java, C++, C, AJAX, JavaScript, ActionScript, and Delphi; software such as Dreamweaver, PhotoShop, Acrobat, Flash, and Coldfusion; and networks such as ASP, Perl, PHP, SQL, CG, and CCS.

The typical average salary of an experienced multimedia programmer is about $65,500 per year. Individuals just entering the field earn an average salary of about $43,600 per year.
