He or she is responsible for the acquisition of necessary computer hardware. He or she maintains the information technology systems within the company and ensures that it is conducive to the effective performance of the corporation. A chief technology officer also ensures that all hardware and software is continuously available to fulfill the needs of a company.

The educational requirements for this position include at least a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and specialized training related to the field. Usually, a minimum of ten years in related work experience is also required in order to ensure that the candidate has met the minimum skill and knowledge requirements for taking on a senior role. The average annual salary of a chief technology officer is around $210,000 per year.
