The business of insurance is a popular business nowadays. A lot of individuals and businesses consider insurance as a security blanket in case something goes wrong. In fact, almost everything can be covered by insurance. From tangible properties to intangible ones, insurance is available. In the insurance business, claims are made by the beneficiary or the insured in case the loss or the risk insured against occurs. These claims are made and directed to the insurance company that issued the involved insurance policy. Hence, it is imperative for the insurance company to hire a person who will assist a claimant in his or her claims. This person is called the claims assistant.

The duties of a claims assistant include the reviewing of documents and pertinent requirements regarding an insurance claim. The claims assistant ensures that the insurance claim made by the beneficiary or insured is complete in form and complies with the documentary requirements of an insurance claim. He or she also determines the claim amounts and informs a claimant regarding basic matters about his or her insurance coverage in relation to the insurance claim. Hence, mastery of the basic guidelines and policies of the insurance company may be required.

The minimum educational requirement for the position of claims assistant is a high school diploma or its equivalent. Experience related to the job applied for is only an advantage but not a requirement. For the performance of the above mentioned duties, the regular annual salary of a claims assistant is $31,000.
