Contract Negotiator
Contract negotiators are responsible for all activities having to do with contracts for the purchase or sale of equipment, raw or semi-finished materials, products, tools, parts, supplies, and services.
Negotiators work closely with attorneys or legal staff and typically report to those at the supervisory level within the business. He or she works to negotiate major contracts with different vendors or clients and consistently updates all parties involved throughout the process. The contract negotiator arranges delivery schedules, prepares cost estimates, examines performance needs, issues progress reports, prepares bids, processes applications, and reviews bids from other firms. He or she negotiates a suitable contract between the customer and the bidder, and then tracks and enforces all conditions of the contract. Contract negotiators are responsible for ensuring all terms in every portion of the contract have been met.
The negotiator may coordinate tasks with sales, production, or shipping departments to further guarantee execution of the contract terms. The contract negotiator may request, create, or approve modifications to or expansion of existing contracts. He or she counsels other company departments as to their contractual entitlements and compulsions.
Contract negotiators are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree in contracts, business administration, finance, economics, or other related field. Many employers also require at least four years of relevant work experience.
The typical average salary of an experienced contract negotiator is about $33,370 per year. Starting salaries pay an average of about $24,100 per year.
