A fashion merchandising technician deals with marketing techniques to improve the sales of fashion related items. These tasks vary among companies, so there is really no general responsibility for these technicians.
One of the duties they assign to fashion merchandising technicians is to organize the different merchandise display areas around a store. These technicians should be able to differentiate the various areas of the store and indicate which areas should be highlighted and which areas should be muted. They will be the one to determine where the items should be placed and how are they to be arranged in the various display area.
They should also be able to identify which items customers would most probably like and purchase. They should not only be versed with the creative side of fashion, they should also know the technicalities involved. With these skills, they are also often assigned to do management tasks and sometimes even the over-all management of the store
In order to be hired as a fashion merchandising technician, you should have a college degree. Some companies will hire high school graduates, but to compete for future positions, you will want to have some post secondary education.
