Financial Counselor
A person who works as a financial counselor gives guidance to clients regarding their personal finances. This job requires a lot of skill so employers do not typically hire people without college degrees. One needs to have a bachelor’s degree just to be considered for the job. Just like other jobs, the tasks of financial counselors vary depending on the field they are working in. It also depends on the wishes of the employer so it is hard to determine the general duty of these counselors.
When working for hospitals, financial counselors will help patients arrange their insurance program and assist them with the different ways to pay for the plans. At other places such as a debt management agency, the counselors would deal with educating the customers about the proper ways of budgeting and maximizing the money they just borrowed from the agency.
The college degree a financial counselor has should be related to marketing or finance. There are still some employers who accept those applicants who are only high school graduates but they need to prove that they have previous experience first. If they are able to show that they have sufficient experience and they can be good with providing advice on financial matters, then the possibility of getting hired would be higher.
Since the financial sector deals with money regularly, the jobs related to this sector usually get a decent salary. For the typical financial counselor’s case, they earn an average of $31,000 to $35,000 yearly not including bonuses.
