Job Hunt: Covering All of Your Bases?

Whether you are out of work, in a job you are not enjoying or looking to move positions for any other reason then it is vital that you cover all your bases when you are hunting that perfect job. In the current economy it is more important than ever that you leave no rock unturned in your job search.

What do I mean by that? Certainly a lot more than just looking in the classifieds! So lets take a look at the most important job hunting areas that you should, as a minimum, be covering.

Recruitment Agencies

Although not everyones cup of tea recruitment agencies are a great place to find a job. These people make their living talking to companies about what recruitment they have on the go and so will have a huge list of jobs available, ones that you are unlikely to come across without them. So utilize that knowledge for yourself.

Make sure that you are registered with local agencies and niche agencies. Both will provide great jobs for you, and be in contact with regards other positions you might be suitable for. Get in touch with them and let them do the work.

Job Boards

A useful meeting point of everything job related. There are now hundreds of job boards out there, ranging from huge generalist sites to small, local or niche job sites. Most will have both recruitment agencies and direct companies looking to hire posting adverts on them, giving you a great selection to choose from.

The majority of boards will also allow you to upload your resume, putting it into a database that will have hundreds of companies and recruiters hunting through it, just waiting to come across your resume and tell you about the perfect job.

Classifieds

Not as important as they once were but the job classifieds in local papers and the like will still give you a good list of local jobs available, so don’t skip past it just because there are other more specific job outlets available.

Companies you want to work for

You know the market leaders in your field right? And you know which company you would love to work with? Well check them out. Most companies post their jobs on their own recruitment/careers section of their website these days, so if you look there you might find a job advertised that the company didn’t want to have to pay to put on a job board.

Even if they have nothing available they are almost always interested in seeing resumes in their niche and will tell you who to send it to. Get your name in there and make them aware of how much you ant to work for them. It’ll pay off in the long run.

Your own, personal network.

Tell your friends about the fact that you are looking for new work. All of them ill be working for someone, and have contacts of their own, so they may well know of something available that you don’t. Don’t limit yourself to people you see either. Instead remember to leverage social networking mediums such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. The more people who know you are looking for a job the more people who might help find you a job.

So there you have it, the basics covered. Job hunting is an important part of anyones career in almost every business, you need to make sure that you are doing it right and have all the basics covered.
