An Assisted Living Administrator is the one responsible for handling admissions, the residents’ needs, sorting out their financial records, communicating with insurance companies, supervising clinical staff and administrating facility operations in nursing homes and residential care facilities where people who cannot fend for themselves are housed.

He or she must know how to interact well with people of limited ability, exercise effective communication with others, manage financial matters well and organization of activities and related matters. Responsibilities of Assisted Living Administrators include the organization of bills, the overall budget of the facility, planning of day-to-day activities, dealing with equipment and facilities present and staff regulation.

The starting salaries of Assisted Living Administrators vary from $30,000 to $40,000 and the annual pay can reach as high as $100,000.

To be able to become an Assisted Living Administrator, one must train in the medical, financial and customer service fields of patient care. A Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science centered around assisted living, a Certificate in Assisted Living Administration or an Associate of Science degree in Assisted Living Administration accommodates the necessary learning and training required.

Due to the particular skills required for the career, individuals who aspire to be Assisted Living Administrators usually take up clinical management, health law and financial management. A Graduate Degree in Health Administration is also ideal. In recent times, several states have required a certificate or license in order to qualify for the job. Most degree programs, though, have included this as part of their completion process.
