Cardiologist Technician

A cardiologist technician works directly with patients who have heart conditions. He or she is responsible for preparing patients for various types of tests and procedures, monitoring cardiac equipment, taking patient information, monitoring patient vital signs, keeping accurate records, performing pacemaker recordings, and performing diagnostic procedures (such as stress tests, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and holter monitoring). Cardiologist technicians work under the supervision of cardiac physicians and may perform certain procedures along side these physicians.

Cardiologist technicians are required to hold a high school diploma (or G.E.D.), and must have completed at least two years of formal health care training. Certification is preferred, as is at least two years of work experience in the health care field. Other recommended skills include: medical equipment experience, proper patient interaction skills, good physical condition (should be able to support, lift, and walk with patients), good record keeping skills, computer skills, and analytical skills. The field of cardiology is expanding, as is the need for cardiologist technicians. Technicians that specialize in particular areas, as well as those who gain experience in non-invasive procedures have the best potential for career advancement.

The typical average salary of an experienced cardiologist technician is about $38,600 per year. Individuals just entering the field earn an average salary of $27,000 per year, while specialized technicians earn an average of about $50,100 per year.
