Dental Ceramist

A Dental Ceramist is in charge of making dental prosthetics as per instructed by the Dentist. They are tasked in handling the dental laboratory tools and materials efficiently, carrying out accurately made dental prosthetics. His or her duties include taking commands from the Dentist regarding the creation of tooth fillers and other forms of dental replicas.

The Dental Ceramist makes dental crowns, bridges, and other accessories for the teeth such as retainers and braces. Mainly, the process they are involved in, is the production of tooth genotypes, which is the molding of the patient’s teeth through a wax plaster impression. This molding serves as their basis in creating metal frames for the patient’s teeth and allows the pouring of amounts of porcelain to match the true color of the teeth.

Additional duties include the fabrication and finishing of dentures, packing and processing of necessary dental prosthetics and other sophisticated dental laboratory works such as construction of fluoride and radiation applicators.

Average Salary

The average salary ranges from $45,000 to $50,000 a year which may vary depending on the additional responsibilities assigned to the Dental Ceramist. He or she might also take on other laboratory works in assistance of the head Dentist.

Required Education

Preferably, qualified Dental Ceramists must have finished an Associate Degree in Dental laboratory technology and some gained some experience in the field.
