Dental Technician
Dental Technicians are confined to work inside a Dental laboratory based within a hospital, company or even private clinics with laboratories. Dental Technicians are not entitled to interact with patients and relay laboratory results themselves. A Dental Technician is responsible in producing or manufacturing dental prosthetics such as dentures, bridges, crowns and ceramics. Dental Technicians are not like Dental Hygienists or Dental Ceramists who are not at all required to have passed a certain licensure examination. Dental Technicians do not require any board licensure examinations. They are also responsible in using sophisticated dental laboratory tools and appliances in outlaying the requested procedures. He must work and take instructions from the Dentist as required.
They are not usually in charge of making moldings for a patient’s teeth. The Ceramist does the job. He or she will just receive the moldings and do necessary procedures assigned to him. The use of Orthodontic appliances and other dental prosthetics is his forte. They are also responsible in partaking in the dental restoration procedure. The Dental Technician is responsible in constructing a set of teeth replica as requested and recommended by the head Dentist. He or she must have skills in crowning and bridging technologies and must know the related hazards of improper administration of these sophisticated procedures.
Average Salary
The salary ranges from $40,000 to $50,000 annually. The salary range varies depending on the company’s terms. But usually, Dental Technicians are in the above salary range.
Required Education
Dental Technicians must have finished at least an Associate Degree in Dental Technology of four to five years course to qualify themselves in the field.
