Health Records Manager
Health records managers work in health care facilities and are responsible for handling all patient records. He or she ensures all patient information is accurate, and that it has been entered correctly into a computer database. Health records managers must comply with all legal regulations while maintaining a high level of security. These managers regularly attend trade seminars to become educated and stay up to date on database programs, security upgrades, and new industry laws and standards. He or she often supervises staff, works with other department heads, and manages document control procedures. Other common duties include: training medical records staff, providing data to physicians, supplying patients with records, and handling insurance inquiries.
A Bachelor’s degree is required to become a health records manager. Many organizations require applicants to hold a Master’s degree.
