Holistic therapists work with patients to help with various forms of rehabilitation by the use of homeopathic medicine and natural healing methods. Holistic therapists focus on the non-traditional methods of healing, especially on the spiritual and emotional paths to wellness. He or she typically uses many different forms of practices including: meditation, relaxation, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic treatments, psychotherapy, nutritional treatments, as well as various forms of natural supplements and herbal remedies. Holistic therapists also plan, implement, and evaluate courses of treatments, specific patient requirements, and oversee members of their healing team. The overall goal of these therapists is to provide safe, natural, effective treatments for the entire person, connecting with the mind, body, and spirit.
The educational and legal requirements needed in order to become a holistic therapist vary a great deal depending on location. Some areas require very little training and no specific education, while other areas require an Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree. There are numerous holistic training programs available, many of which provide some form of certification. The field of holistic healing is currently expanding with a projected growth rate of 27% for the next ten years.
The typical average salary of a holistic therapist is about $60,000 per year. Therapists who open private healing centers have considerably higher earning potential.
