Social Service Professions
Social services are a rapidly growing field as a product of increases in home and elderly care, as well as general family services. Many areas within social services do not require a degree, which pushes down wages and increases turn over rates.
Those seeking to work in a specialized area of social services should focus on a certain career path such as health care, psychology or law; a general background in social science will limit your career options. Within specialized fields, there is a rapid growth in demand for counseling and therapists in certain settings, especially among families and school settings. Another large area of growth is in rehabilitation services, which will increase as the population ages.
Those seeking careers in non profit organizations will find a competitive field with a relatively low and unstable demand, and although the field may be rewarding, compensation will be relatively low.
