Studying

Even if you have the most brilliant brain in the world, it never hurts to study. Most people forget a large percentage of what they learn, but studying thirty minutes after a class, session, or previous study session is complete can increase retention and allow your brain to work through concepts that might have been too difficult just half an hour before.

The mind is an amazing thing, but it needs to be trained, and studying is the best tool in your learning arsenal.

If you cram your studying into a short time before a test, you can actually lower your end mark, as you can quickly and easily be overloaded, and as such, your ability to recall facts, or separate them from other details can become clouded.

Making Time For Studying

There is a very simple way to make time for studying that helped me get higher grades, and I wanted to share it today. While it is very much, common sense, there are many students that don’t make the time to study, and end up with a lower grade than they otherwise would have wanted.

Remove your media pursuits one day a week. You like to watch television, play video games, listen to music, read books, browse around on the Internet, but all of those can take away from key study time, so one day a week, and it doesn’t have to be the same day each week, stop all of those media pursuits and focus on getting in some extra study time.

This is a great way to review for tests, or make time for assignments that you are behind on. This tip should only be used to supplement your daily study time, but I have successfully applied this tip while I was in College.

I also found my ability to remember what I studied was heightened because the studying I was doing wasn’t trying to compete with any other information for that one day a week. My retention went up, and thus so did my grades.

If you are suffering from information overload, or are having a hard time putting in extra study time, try turning off the radio, television, and computer for a day, and you might just find that you can remember what you study on those days, just a little bit better.
