Divinity Bachelor’s Degree
Overview
Divinity students, whether they earn degrees from dedicated divinity schools or as religious studies majors at traditional universities develop a strong background in research and reasoning, which opens up career opportunities both within the religious and secular fields. While many students seek direct work for religious organizations, which may require further graduate study, divinity majors can also find work as research assistants at school, seminaries and non-profits, in addition to entering the government sector or private sector in consulting and management.
As a humanities degree, divinity majors develop important writing skills and cultural knowledge that helps them work in service industries. Many majors enter teaching positions, which can provide a background for further education or a transition into counseling, social work, publishing or management.
Salary Expectations
Starting salaries generally begin around $25,000, with higher beginning rates for students who enter the private for-profit work space. Generally, religious and non-profit salaries are lower, although there are opportunities for advancement and supplemental incomes in consulting, publishing and public speaking.
