College FinancesAs we get ready for a new government to take over, there will most likely be some changes to how financial aid, government funding, and other school financial concerns are organized, distributed and how much there is available. Of course, we all hope that the amount of financial aid will go up, allowing students to afford their education without having to work full time hours to make ends meet, but with the economy in turmoil right now, some states are clamping down on financial aid.

We also hope that schools won’t cut funding on their courses, leading to out of date facilities, ballooning classes sizes, and a continual increase in tuition prices, but that will depend on numerous factors, including how much time, energy and money the government devotes to post-secondary education.

The best thing that any student or potential student can do is to keep informed on what the government is doing. If you have any questions about student aid, check in with the nearest University and speak to their financial aid officer. Otherwise, contact the financial aid office in your state and see what is available and what the rules are.

Watch your school as well. They may get their funding cut, decide to raise tuition by an enormous amount, or reduce the benefits of attending their school by cutting research funding, arts programs and other important parts of what makes a school stand out from the mediocrity of others.

Keep track of the government on the Financial Aid pages of Ed.gov and be sure to check out our College Finances page..
