Financial Hardships

With the shift in the economy, the endowments that might have otherwise been used to improve educational facilities are withering away. Some schools losing upwards of 16% of their endowment value.

Without these payouts, construction may stop on a variety of expansion projects, and new staff hires that were planned might be put on hold.

The University near me has reported a loss of $49 million dollars, and has already planned on stopping construction on the expansion of the student facility.

Hopefully, schools will move fast and put their investments in more secure locations in hopes of not loosing anymore over the next few years, as the cost might be passed on to the student body, which is already heavily burdened with massive student debt.

What are your thoughts on how the economic shift will effect higher learning? Let me know in the comments below, especially if you’ve seen other reports regarding this issue.
