Location Independent Learning is often called Asynchronous Learning, or Distance Education Learning.

It’s really an amazing advancement in the field of education. It’s made possible by technology that allows the teacher to be in one location, and the students to be in multiple locations throughout the world.

Basically I can work in Houston, Texas go to school in Boston, Massachusetts and live in San Diego. It’s amazing how the spread of the internet, and online learning has made all of this feasible.

Location Independent Learning takes into account that not everyone learns the same way. For example I am a self learner. I would much rather teach myself a language, than go to a lecture hall, read a text book and follow through course guidelines in a traditional setting. Being able to do Location Independent Learning I am able to determine which coursework is most appropriate for me, which setting is most appropriate, and at what pace I need to achieve in order to be successful.

Recently I began doing some online study of Spanish. Interestingly enough I consider myself mostly fluent in Spanish. However now that I’m taking an intensive online class I realize just how big of a weakness I have in reading Spanish and mastering the grammatical ins and outs of written Spanish.

Location Independent Learning has allowed me to connect with native Spanish speakers in order to hone my skills, and gain a better understanding of the written language something I couldn’t get in a classroom in rural Montana.

Everyone learns differently. Location Independent Learning puts you back in control of the learning process. That’s what I love about it.
