MoreRight now there is a big push in our society to get a college degree but will the job you want be safe from outsourcing into the world market?
The global market is quickly moving faster and faster and more jobs that can be outsourced to other countries are, leaving only jobs that are secure from outsourcing to continue receiving a high employment rate.
Jobs like electricians, roofers, and mechanics are safe from the globalization of our economy, but jobs like computer engineers might not be.
Does that mean that you shouldn’t spend the time taking a degree in computer science? No, I just think that it means that people have to be aware that there will be competition from the entire world, rather than just any single region in the United States. Anyone who can adapt to the changes in the market place will be fine, but I do see a trend that could leave certain degree holders in the unemployment line.
This does bring up an interesting question though: if you have an interest in a trade, should you still go get a college degree first? Well, The Wall Street Journal reported a month ago saying that some unionized trade workers are already earning more than the average college graduate, and with the demand for skilled labor rising, I would advise anyone with a natural predisposition towards a craft to focus on taking advantage of the growing need.
