Concordia College

Concordia College was established in 1922 in Selma, Alabama. A historically African-American university, Concordia was known as the Alabama Lutheran Academy and Junior College until 1981. It remains a private institution with a Lutheran orientation. Its campus is positioned on a 22-acre site in Northeast Selma. Concordia College currently has just under a thousand students enrolled at a student to faculty ratio of 62:1. A selection of degrees are offered to students, including associate’s degrees.

Academic programs at Concordia College are focused in a few key areas. The college offers an associate’s degree in the arts, in addition to bachelor of science degrees in education and business administration. There are various divisions within these programs, each containing different courses. These include education, general education, business and computer Information systems, social studies, social/behavioral sciences and theology. Students pursuing an education degree may be eligible for the Lutheran Teacher Diploma, a supplemental achievement that is dependent on the student’s standing within the Lutheran Church. Certain classes are also available online.

Concordia College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an 11-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
