Jacksonville State University
Jacksonville State University began as the Jacksonville State Normal School, created in 1883 by an act of the Alabama State Legislature. In 1930, it became the Jacksonville State Teachers College, and then Jacksonville State College in 1957. Finally, in 1967, the College became a university. Located in Jacksonville, Alabama, JSU is situated on a massive, 459-acre campus. Currently, the institution has approximately 9,481 students enrolled and 322 faculty members, with both numbers growing at a steady rate. Jacksonville State University is a public institution.
JSU offers a variety of degrees at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Undergraduate degrees are offered in areas such as accounting, communication, electronics, management, marketing, nursing and technology (among others). Graduate programs at JSU provide master’s degrees in business administration, nursing, instructional media, music, and various forms of education specialization. An Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program is available to students of JSU through the Department of Military Science.
Jacksonville State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
