Spring Hill College

Spring Hill College was founded in Mobile, Alabama by Bishop Michael Portier in 1830. It is a private Roman Catholic Jesuit school – one of the oldest of its type in the country and in the South in particular. Originally a boarding school and then a high school, Spring Hill began focusing exclusively on four-year education in 1935. It was the first college in the deep south to admit African-American students, and today it sits on a massive, 400-acre campus with approximately 1,500 graduate and undergraduate students under the instruction of around eighty faculty members.

Spring Hill offers over two dozen programs for undergraduate students in many different subjects. Divisions include business, communication and the arts, international studies, interdisciplinary studies, language and literature, nursing, philosophy, theology, science, social science and teacher education. Pre-professional programs are offered in the areas of dentistry, engineering, law, occupation and physical therapy, optometry, medicine and veterinary. Spring Hill graduate students can pursue master’s degrees in business administration, teacher education, the liberal arts and ministry. Spring Hill college maintains an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program.

Spring Hill College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
