California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) was established in 1901 in San Luis Obispo in the Santa Barbara and Monterey counties, ten miles from the Pacific Ocean and midway between Los Angeles to the north and San Francisco to the south.
Cal Poly’s 1,321-acre main campus is home to seven colleges: the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, College of Architecture and Environmental Design, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science and Mathematics, and the Orfalea College of Business.
Together, these seven colleges form part of the 23-campus California State University school complex whose basic system of education is “learning by doing” through the integration of a professional and technical curriculum into a liberal arts education. In association with University of California (Santa Barbara), it confers more than 65 bachelor’s degrees, nearly 30 master’s, one doctorate of education together with nearly 85 minors and credentials.
With an enrollment of nearly 19,500 and faculty of almost 1,300, student to faculty ratio is 19:1.
Undergraduate tuition per quarter for students enrolled in the College of Agriculture, College of Architecture & Environmental Design, College of Business, College of Engineering and College of Science & Math is $1,371 for 6 units or less and $2,066, over 6 units. For students enrolled in College of Liberal Arts, tuition per quarter is $1,321 for 6 units or less and $1,966, over 6 units. Tuition for graduate students taking MS in Accountancy, MS in Business and Technology, and Masters in Business Administration costs $140 per unit. Non-resident tuition amounts to $248 per unit. In addition, on campus housing (double occupancy) ranges from $1,643 to $1,941; residence hall meals cost from $1,168 to $1,446.
