Institute of Transpersonal Psychology
The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP) was founded in 1975 by Drs. Robert Frager and James Fadiman to address the need for a curriculum in psychological research and education that would consider the different aspects of human experience. It is a private, non-sectarian graduate school that specializes in transpersonal psychology, a field of study that encompasses Beyond-Ego Psychology, Integrative/Holistic Psychology and Transformative Psychology. Extending psychological studies into consciousness studies, body-mind relationships, spiritual inquiry and transformation is what transpersonal psychology is all about.
ITP’s founders saw the conventional approach to study lacking and fragmented. They developed a curriculum that focused on six core areas of inquiry including the intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, social and creative aspects. Some of the transpersonal pioneers include Aldous Huxley, William James, Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers.
Located at 1069 East Meadow Circle, Palo Alto, California, the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology can be found about two miles from Stanford University. Its residential programs include Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology, Master of Arts in Transpersonal Psychology, Master of Arts in Women’s Spirituality and Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.
