Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley
The Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley is one of only two theological centers in the US operated by the Society of Jesus. Its offered programs prepare students for lay and ordained leadership positions in the Catholic Church. It is located at 1735 Le Roy Avenue, Berkeley, California. Originally established as the Alma College in 1934 in Los Gatos, California, the Jesuit School was founded to serve the needs of Jesuit provinces in California and Oregon. It relocated to Berkeley and adapted its present name and became one of the member schools of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in 1969. Its location is in close proximity to the University of California.
Degree programs offered by the Jesuit School include the Master of Divinity, Combined Master of Arts/Master of Divinity, Master of Theological Studies, Master of Theology, Licentiate in Sacred Theology, MA in Biblical Languages and the MA granted in cooperation with GTU. Also offered are certificate courses in Theological Studies, Ministry Studies and Hispanic Theological and Pastoral Studies.
GTU is an educational institution comprised of three Roman Catholic and six Protestant seminaries plus 11 centers and programs. Each seminary designs its own programs and admits its own students. The Jesuit School shares with GTU a common registrar and library.
Full-time students pay from $ 12,750.00 to $ 15,450.00 per semester depending on the programs. Part-time units cost from $ 565.00 to $ 660.00 per credit. Students enrolled in 12 units per semester are considered full-time students.
