John F. Kennedy University

John F. Kennedy University (JFKU) is an educational institution long involved in providing academic opportunities to the residents of the San Francisco Bay Area. It held its first classes in 1965 in Martinez, California for its original 50 students. Through the years, John F. Kennedy University has continuously worked to expand its programs and services while adding and changing locations along the way to make its programs more accessible to students, both traditional and adult learners.

John F. Kennedy University opened its permanent campus in 2004 in Pleasant Hill, California, while retaining its campuses in Campbell and Berkeley. It also maintains community counseling centers in Sunnyvale, Oakland and Pleasant Hill. Programs are offered through JFKU’s five schools consisting of the Graduate School of Professional Psychology, School of Education and Liberal Arts, School of Holistic Studies, School of Law and School of Management. Additional programs are offered through its Division of Continuing and Extended Education.

The Community Counseling Centers are facilitated by John F. Kennedy University’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology and the School of Holistic Studies primarily to serve the area residents. These centers provide high quality mental health services while functioning as safe and confidential places where people in need of counseling and support can go. The Pleasant Hill Community Counseling Center is located at 380 Civic Drive, Ste, 200, Pleasant Hill, while the Sunnyvale Community Counseling Center can be found at 572 Dunholme Way, Sunnyvale. The Oakland Center for Holistic Counseling, on the other hand, is situated in 2501 Harrison Street, Oakland.

John F. Kennedy University is affiliated with the National University System which aims to connect students to a network of innovative programs in education. JFKU has also been credited for creating programs in relatively new fields such as career development, sport psychology, museum studies and holistic health. There are over 2,000 students presently enrolled in the various programs offered in the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels.
