Marymount College
Marymount College is a Catholic, coeducational institution founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM). It was established in 1932 but traces its origins as far back as 1849 when RSHM was founded. RSHM foundations were put up in different countries including the US to address various needs, one of the most urgent of which is education.
RSHM’s involvement in higher education started with the founding of Marymount College in New York in 1919. Marymount College was established in Los Angeles, California in 1932 as a two-year women’s college. The years that followed saw its accreditation as a four-year college, its educational partnership with Loyola University and site transfer to Palos Verdes Peninsula. It finally moved to its present location in 1975 when it decided to return to its origins as a two-year institution of higher learning. The college is presently located at 30800 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Marymount College is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and offers programs leading to degrees in Associate of Arts and Associate of Science. It has recently added the Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, Liberal Arts and Media Studies. The average class size is 17 while the student/faculty ratio is 16:1.
Facilities housed in the campus are the Learning Center which serves students of all levels; the Library which also allows for borrowing privileges to residents of the community; and smart classrooms equipped with electronic whiteboards, document cameras, DVD/VCR players and ceiling-mounted projectors. The whole campus has been provided with wireless capability. Alternative educational programs are presented through the Early College Experience Program and the Summer School K-12 Program. Tuition per academic year is $ 24,052.00. Part-time students are charged $ 350.00 per unit for credits beyond 17 or $ 825.00 per credit for credits below 12.
