Monterey Institute of International Studies

Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) was established in 1955 as the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies by Gaspard Weiss, Remsen Bird and Dwight Morrow Jr. It was envisioned by its founders to be an institution that promoted international understanding through extensive study in language and culture. It started occupying its present campus in 1961 which is located at 460 Pierce Street, Monterey, California.

Monterey Institute of International Studies is an affiliate of Middlebury College. It offers graduate programs for professionals through its Graduate School of International Policy and Management as well as the Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Education. Degrees offered include MBA in International Management, MA in International Policy Studies, MA in Non-Proliferation and Terrorism Studies, Master of Public Administration, MA in Translation, MA In Translation and Interpretation, MA in Translation and Localization Management, MA in Conference Interpretation, MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language, MA in Teaching of Foreign Language and a Bachelor-MA Joint Degree Program. Various certificate and special programs provide more options to students.

More than 800 students coming from at least 70 countries comprised the institute’s student body. Located in the so-called “Language Capital of the World”, Monterey Institute of International Studies has good company in Monterey in the likes of the Defense Language Institute and the US Armed Forces’ Language Training Facility, among others. US students are required to submit their applications at least one month before semester start dates while international students should submit theirs at least three months in advance.

Educational costs per academic year include $ 32,000.00 for tuition, $ 900.00 for books and supplies, $ 56.00 for student activity fee, $ 12,240.00 for housing and food, $ 900.00 for local transportation, $ 1,800.00 for personal expense and $ 1,752.00 for health insurance for an estimated total of $ 49,648.00.
