Sonoma State University

Founded in 1960 as a teacher education center for North Bay, Sonoma State University is a member of the 23-campus California State University system.

Located 50 miles north of San Francisco in California’s wine country, it maintains a 169-acre campus and other facilities principally the Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center, the 59,000-square foot Recreation Center, the 411-acre Fairfield Osborn Preserve nearby, and the 3,200-acre Galbreath Wildland Preserve.

Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the California State Board of Education, AACSB-International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and other agencies, it confers degrees in forty-five majors and forty-eight minors at the bachelor’s level and fifteen at the master’s level through six schools, namely: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Education, Extended Education, Social Sciences, and Science and Technology. In cooperation with San Francisco State University, Sonoma State confers a joint master’s degree in mathematics as well as a joint doctoral degree in educational administration with two other universities. It also administers nine credential programs and eight undergraduate and graduate certificate programs.

Its popular majors (by number of applicants) are Biology, Criminal Justice, Communications, English, History, Kinesiology, Pre-Business, Pre-Nursing, and Psychology.

It enrolls more than 8,900 students and maintains an average class size not exceeding 40 students.
