University of California, Santa Barbara
The University of California Santa Barbara, is also known as UC Santa Barbara. It is a public research university that is one of the 10 campuses that form the University of California organization. UC Santa Barbara started as a teachers’ college and became part of the University’s holdings in 1944. The main campus takes up 1,022 acres of property in Santa Barbara, which is approximately 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
UC Santa Barbara has approximately 18,400 undergraduate students and 3,000 graduate students. The University employs 1,504 faculty members and the student-to-teacher ratio is 23:1. Five members of the faculty have won the Nobel Prize. UC Santa Barbara is considered to be a difficult school to be admitted to.
It is known for its research work as well as its programs in Business Managerial, Communication Studies, International Global Studies, Psychology, and Sociology. The U.S. News and World Report ranked UC Santa Barbara at No. 44 on its list of national universities.

Admission Requirements
Students interested in attending the University of California can submit one application and indicate which campuses they would like to be considered for. Applying for a program on multiple campuses increases the likelihood that you will be accepted to the University. Your application form can be filled in and submitted online.
Freshman applicants must send in the results of their SAT Reasoning Test and two Subject Tests or ACT Assessment Plus Writing to be considered. You do not need to send letters of recommendation to the University, but you are asked to send in a personal statement as part of the application process. Applications for the fall term are accepted from November 1-30; decisions are released from March 1-31.
Tuition & Financial Aid
If you are a California resident attending UC Santa Barbara, there is no charge for tuition. Non-residents who want to study there on a full-time basis, you will need to pay $20,608 per academic year for tuition. Room and board adds $12,485 to your educational costs. You will also need to budget for $8,573 for mandatory fees.
Sports at UC Santa Barbara
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos play in the NCAA’s Big West Conference. The school is known for the performance of its women’s basketball and men’s soccer teams. The men’s soccer team won the NCAA championship in 2006
Students at UC Santa Barbara also participate in several club sports, including cycling, field hockey, rugby, sailing, and water skiing.
