Eastern Connecticut State University
Eastern Connecticut State University was founded in 1889 as a Normal School to prepare elementary school teachers. It is a coeducational, residential institution of learning that is located at Willimantic, Connecticut, midway between Boston and New York. It occupies a 182-acre wooded campus that houses at least 50 academic, administrative and residential buildings. The most recent addition to its many facilities is its Science Building.
The university offers degree programs in the Master of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of General Studies and Associate of Science. It has 33 undergraduate majors and 56 minors from which students can choose from. Teacher Certification Programs for Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary and Physical Education are also offered. Graduate programs in Education, Organizational Management and Educational Technology provide more adult-learning options.
Total enrolment is approximately 5,500, about 80% of whom are full-time students. The average class size is 23 while the student/faculty ratio is 16:1. About 92% of faculty members hold terminal degrees in their respective fields.
Eastern Connecticut State University offers its various programs through its four schools: School of Arts and Sciences, School of Continuing Education, School of Education and Professional Studies and its Graduate Division. Estimated yearly tuition for in-state students is approximately $ 3,514.00 while out-of-state students are charged about $ 11,373.00. The university’s general fee of $ 2,603.00 is the same for all. Other mandatory fees include university state fee, activity fee, technology fee and student loan fee. Room rate is approximately $ 4,955.00 for double occupancy. An undergraduate student needs to be enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours to be categorized as a full-time student.
