Mitchell College
Mitchell College is a private, coeducational, residential college founded as the New London Junior College in 1938. Initially a two-year community college, it was established in the former Mitchell family estate by Waldo Clarke together with a group of New London, Connecticut residents. The college adapted its present name in 1950 in honor of the descendants of the Alfred Mitchell family, who have been principal benefactors since the college’s founding.
Located at 437 Pequot Avenue, New London, Connecticut, the college seeks to provide holistic student development through its bachelor’s and associate degree programs. It occupies 68-acre of suburban, waterfront campus located in the Connecticut shoreline. Aside from various administrative, instructional and residential buildings, also found in the campus are two beaches, athletic fields, a pond and the Mitchell Woods.
The student body is comprised of 1,000 full-time and part-time students, 75% of whom reside on campus. On-campus residential facilities include 3 traditional-style halls and 4 waterfront Victorian houses. The average class size is 18 while the student/faculty ratio is 12:1. Student/computer ratio is 4:1.
Mitchell College offers degree programs in Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and various certificate courses. These programs are provided through the college’s academic departments comprised of Behavioral Sciences, Communication Arts, Education, Hospitality and Tourism, Humanities, Law and Justice Policy Studies, Science/Technology/Environmental Studies and Mathematics (STEM), Business Administration, Sports and Fitness Management and Global Studies Department.
Tuition and fees are as follows: $ 37,175.00 per year for on-campus resident students and $ 25,627.00 per year for commuting students. These amounts include tuition and fees, plus room and board for resident students. Part-time tuition costs $ 275.00 per credit hour or $ 9,013.00 per semester for 9, 10 or 11 credits.
