University of Delaware

As the largest college in the state, the University of Delaware’s main campus is found in Newark with over 17,000 students, most of whom are undergraduates.

Founded in 1743, the University is a public research facilitate that primarily derives its funds from private sources, which enables it to have a hybrid model due to its large educational endowment. As a result, the school is able to offer low tuition relative to other top research schools, and has well known programs in chemical engineering, biochemistry, agricultural science and public policy.

The school’s engineering programs are among the top in the nation, and offer degrees from bachelor’s to doctoral programs. Featuring seven independent colleges, the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics is among the most rigorous undergraduate business programs, and also offers graduate degrees. Unique to the University, nearly two-thirds of its students come from out of state.
