The Catholic University of America (CUE) was officially established by the Catholic Church in March 1889 when Pope Leo XIII issued the encyclical Magni Nobis granting the university its charter.
Its 193-acre campus is located near the center of Washington, D.C., and only a few minutes ride from Capitol Hill, Union Station and the Library of Congress. As a private and coeducational institution, Catholic University offers undergraduate degrees in more than 70 programs through its 11 colleges: theology and religious studies, canon law, philosophy, arts and sciences, law, architecture and planning, engineering, library and information science, music, nursing, and social service. It also offers Master’s Degree in more than 100 programs and Doctor of Philosophy in more than 60 programs. It is the only American Catholic university which can grant grant canonical degrees in canon law, philosophy and theology to prepare men for the priesthood.
In addition to its 11 schools, it also maintains 21 facilities and research centers plus the Metropoliatn College which provides educational programs for adults who desire to earn baccalaureate or master’s degrees or participate in continuing education on a part-time basis.
It has an enrollment of more than 3,400 undergraduate and 3,200 graduate students from all fifty states and more than ninety countries. More than ninety percent of CUA’s full time faculty have doctoral degrees nearly seventy percent of whom teach undergraduates. Sixty percent of its full time faculty is Catholic. More than eighty percent of it undergraduates and more than sixty percent of its graduates are also Catholic.
Full-time tuition for undergraduate and graduate study in all schools (except for Architecture and Planning, Engineering, Intensive English, Law, the National Catholic School of Social Service, and Metropolitan College) amounts to $15,870.00 per semester.
