Georgetown University
Georgetown University is a private Jesuit university. As the name implies, it is located in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. The University was founded in 1789, and is the oldest Roman Catholic institution of higher education in the United States. The University does endorse Catholic policies, and this has led to controversy at different times.
Approximately 6,800 undergraduate students and 7,300 graduate students attend Georgetown University. They are taught by 1,857 faculty members, and the student-to-faulty ratio is 11:1. The University has four schools for undergraduate studies, as well as three schools offering graduate and professional programs. Bill Clinton attended Georgetown, and the University is well known for its programs in business, government, law, international relations, and medicine.

Admission Requirements
Georgetown University gives prospective students three options when applying. Under the Early Action policy lets applicants submit their materials to multiple schools and get a quick response, as long as they haven’t applied for a binding Early Decision at another institution. If you decide to apply under the Early Decision option, you are committing to attending Georgetown if accepted. Prospective students can also apply for a Regular Decision.
The deadline for Early Action or Early Decision applications is November 1, and decisions are announced on December 15. To be considered under the Regular Application track, you will need to apply by January 10, and the decision announcement is made on April 1.
Application forms are available on the University’s web site. You will also need to submit a Secondary School Report, Teacher Report, and Mid Year School Report.
Tuition and Room and Board
Tuition at Georgetown will cost you $37,536. Your housing costs will vary, depending on whether you are in a room in residence, an apartment, or a townhouse. Rates start at $7,636 for a room (triple occupancy) and go as high as $9,190 for an apartment. Townhouses are available for $7,804 plus utilities for the academic year. Meal plans are extra.
Georgetown Sports
The Georgetown athletic teams are known as “the Hoyas.” Twenty-seven varsity teams compete in the NCAA Division I, as well as the Big East Conference. The athletics program has been recognized as one of the Top 20 in the nation, according to U.S. World and News Report.
The Georgetown basketball team has performed very well in competition. The lacrosse, rowing, sailing, and track and field teams have also distinguished themselves on the playing field. One hundred student athletes from Georgetown have become professional athletes after attending the University.
