Barry University
Established in 1940 under the name Barry College by members of the Catholic Church, Barry University is today a private co-educational institution located in Miami Shores, Florida. Since its creation, the college became a University in 1981, and now sits on a 122-acre campus located in a picturesque tropical setting. There are 8,500 students enrolled at Barry, including 3,000 undergraduates, another 2,600 graduate students plus around 2,000 additional students enrolled in professional programs. The student to faculty ratio at Barry University is a low 14:1.
Barry University offers degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A total of over one hundred bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, specialist programs and doctorates are available. A few examples of the numerous bachelor’s degrees offered would be accounting, art, biology, business, chemistry, English, history, information technology, international studies, legal studies, liberal studies, marketing, nursing, professional administration and many, many more. Master’s programs are offered in many of the same areas, including business, counseling, management, nursing, public relations, theology and many others. Specialist programs are available in counseling and education-related fields, and Ph.D.’s can be obtained in counseling, education-related subjects, nursing and social work. Doctorates are available in the areas of medicine, ministry and nursing. An Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program is available at Barry.
Barry University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
