Eckerd College is a private liberal arts institution founded in 1958 in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was originally named Florida Presbyterian College, and while the name was changed in 1972, the institution remains affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Eckerd College is located on a 188-acre waterfront campus in St. Petersburg. Currently, there are 1817 students enrolled at the institution, plus an additional 1,000 who take part annually in its Program for Experienced Leaders. Eckerd College’s academic programs are focused entirely at the undergraduate level. Forty-three undergraduate majors are available to choose from, including six modern languages (both Chinese and Japanese are potential majors, as is the case with East Asian studies, though German, French, Spanish and Italian are also available). Several politically-oriented degrees, such as international relations, political science and international studies are offered, and a few pre-professional programs are also available. There are many specialized degrees to pursue in business/economics, writing/literature and numerous scientific subjects. Online courses are available as well, and virtually all of Eckerd’s majors have materials that can be accessed online. Both Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs are available to students of Eckerd.
Eckerd College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education.
