Edison State College

Edison State College is a public institution located in Fort Myers, Florida. Its main campus, the Lee County campus, was established in 1962. Since then, it has expanded to two additional sites: one in Collier County and the other in Charlotte County. The main campus at Fort Myers is around 140 acres in size, while the Collier county campus sits on around eighty acres. Between all of the campuses and combined with the number of online students, total enrollment stands at 19,563. The student to faculty ratio is 23:1.

ESC offers degrees at the undergraduate level only, providing associate’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees. Associate’s degrees make up the majority of the programs at Edison state, with around twenty in total offered to students. Some examples of these include accounting, business administration, criminal justice, fire science, internet services, nursing and paralegal, among others. A single associate in arts degree is available to general education majors. Eleven certification programs can be entered, covering subjects ranging from accounting to eye care to visual assessment. Finally, there are (or will be as of Fall 2009) bachelor’s degrees offered to those who are interested in public safety administration, secondary biology education, secondary mathematics, elementary education, nursing and supervision and management.

Edison State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
