Florida Gulf Coast University

Florida Gulf Coast University was created in 1991 by an act of the State of Florida as a public institution meant to serve the citizens of Southwest Florida. It is located on a gifted land area of some 760 acres in Fort Myers, Florida. 10,221 students are enrolled at FGCU, and the student to faculty ratio is relatively low, standing at 18:1.

FGCU offers degrees at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Undergraduate degrees are provided by seven different schools and colleges, covering the areas of the arts and sciences, education, health professions, professional studies, business and engineering. Bachelor’s degrees can be obtained with around fifty different majors. Around thirty different graduate programs are available, offering master’s degrees in areas such as business administration, counseling, criminal forensic studies and criminal justice, various educational fields, history, nursing and public administration. Doctoral and post-graduate programs are offered in education and physical therapy.

Florida Gulf Coast University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
