Florida Institute of Technology
Florida Institute of Technology is a private and independent technical school located at Melbourne, Florida. Established in 1958 as the Brevard Engineering College, it was not until 1966 when the technical school was renamed Florida Institute of Technology in clear recognition of the institution’s expanding role in the development of science and technology. In 1972, in response to a request made by the Navy for the college to conduct classes at Maryland, the first off-campus program was launched. Gradually, by 1974, Master’s degree courses were available at 14 different areas.
Currently, students at Florida Institute of Technology have a choice of pursuing either undergraduate studies or graduate courses through various majors at any of the institute’s distinguished colleges; namely, College of Engineering, College of Science, College of Aeronautics, College of Psychology and Liberal Arts, College of Business, and Extended Studies. Students can take up undergraduate courses in science, engineering, aeronautics, business, humanities, mathematics, psychology, communication and education. Those pursuing a Master’s Degree can take up similar courses in science, engineering, aviation and mathematics; while those looking towards acquiring a doctoral degree can take up courses in science, engineering, psychology and science and mathematics education.
To insure that the high-quality education provided by the college is accessible to all, an online program was launched which allowed students who could not attend the regular day classes to complete their courses via an Internet connection.
