Florida Memorial University

Florida Memorial University was founded in 1879 in Live Oak, Florida, as the Florida Baptist Institute. In 1882, a second school, Florida Baptist Academy, was established in Jacksonville, and after two name changes it was moved to St. Augustine in 1918. Finally, in 1941, the two campuses were merged into one, and the name was changed again until it finally became Florida Memorial College. Today, the college is a privately-run University of the liberal arts, and is seated on a 44-acre campus in Miami Gardens. Approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students study there under the instruction of just over one hundred faculty members.
