Florida Southern College

Florida Southern College is a private liberal arts institution located in Lakeland, Florida. It was founded in 1883 in Orlando, and was the first private college in the state. It was then moved to Leesburg, then Sutherland, and then Clearwater before finally moving to its current location. Its 100-acre campus is home to 1,750 undergraduate students instructed at a student to faculty ratio of 13:1.

Academic programs at Florida Southern College are offered at the undergraduate level primarily, although a handful of graduate programs are also provided, in addition to a slew of pre-professional programs. There are over fifty majors to choose from, with the most popular being education, nursing, communication, business administration, music, the natural sciences and psychology. There are four graduate programs at FSC, providing master’s degrees in the areas of teaching, business administration, education and nursing. There are eight pre-professional programs, covering dental, engineering, law, medical, pharmacy, physical therapy, theological and veterinary studies. Both US Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs are provided to students of FSC.

Florida Southern College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
