Indian River State College
Indian River State College is a public institution located in Fort Pierce, Florida. It was originally founded in 1959 under the name of Indian River Junior college. It has since undergone a name change (recently in 2007), as well as a relocation to its current 87-acre campus. Enrollment stands at around 15,000, and the institution employs around 180 full-time faculty members.
IRSC is an undergraduate school, originally a two-year college but now a four-year school. The majority of degree programs at Indian River are at the associate’s level, with bachelor’s degrees only arriving in 2007. Associate’s programs are available as Associate in Arts, Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science degrees. In total, almost fifty different career paths can be explored by undergraduate students. Some examples would be architecture, biology, engineering, foreign language, marine science, political science and social work. There are nine bachelor’s degrees available to students of IRSC; they are provided in the areas of education (secondary biology and mathematics, plus middle grade mathematics and science), exceptional student education, organizational management (with separate degrees in healthcare and public safety administration specialization), plus nursing.
Indian River State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
