Palm Beach Atlantic University
Palm Beach Atlantic University was founded in 1968 in West Palm Beach, Florida. It is a private Christian (non-denominational) institution that is centered on the liberal arts. It is currently located on a 25-acre campus, though the university will be adding an additional 76-acre section of the campus in 2010. There are 3,200 students enrolled at PBA as well as 140 full-time faculty members.
PBA University offers associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in several dozen areas of study. Subjects that may be explored at Palm Beach Atlantic University include accounting, athletic education, biology (including seven different concentrations), communication, finance, journalism, mathematics, nursing, physical education, psychology and many others. There are three bachelor’s degrees provided to evening students: two bachelor’s of science degrees (one in organizational management and the other in organizational management online), plus a bachelor of arts in ministry. Graduate programs include business administration, counseling psychology, organizational leadership and pharmacy. Seven individual courses are available online, focused primarily on business and mathematics. Recently, a single United States Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program opened its doors to students of Palm Beach Atlantic University. While the program initially only enrolled ten students, it is expected to grow and become active both on campus and off. Several scholarships are available to students in the ROTC program. Finally, there are satellite PBA campuses in Wellington and Orlando.
Palm Beach Atlantic University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
